Coinbase announced that it will support bitcoin core (BTC), in its noncustodial wallet. The wallet was initially dedicated to ethereum, ethereum classic (ETC), and ERC721 tokens. The San Francisco-based company intends to add additional currencies to the wallet in near future.
Noncustodial Coinbase now supports BTC
Coinbase has released a noncustodial wallet that allows you to store, send, and receive ETH, ETC and many other ERC-based tokens. Coinbase Wallet is a rebranding of the ‘Toshi” client that was introduced in April 2017. It also allows you to connect to a dapp browser which showcases certain ETH-fueled services. Coinbase had announced a few weeks ago that the development team was working on adding BTC support to their wallet. On February 5, Siddharth Koelho-Prabhu, a Coinbase representative, revealed that the developers had fully integrated support for BTC. The announcement stated that Coinbase Wallet’s goal is to be the most trusted crypto wallet for users.
Coelho -Prabhu explained that Bitcoin support is enabled by default. To send Bitcoin to your Coinbase Wallet, all you have to do is tap Receive’ on main wallet tab. “Coinbase Wallet supports both older segwit addresses that have lower transaction fees and legacy addresses to ensure backward compatibility with all applications.
