So we talked last about the Small Blind and the Big Blind and the rounds of betting going through a hand. We have covered the basics but it is a little more complicated, but not so complicated that you will want to switch to a different game.
Texas Hold ‘em strategies begin partly with understanding cash flow. At a basic level you have to know how much money you have and how much you can afford to bet, and how many chances you will get to play.
The game ends for a player when that player runs out of chips. That’s a pretty simple concept now isn’t it!
So at an initial level you first need to understand that you can play as many rounds as your chips last.
So if we are given the following facts:
4 people playing
Big Blind Amount $10
Small Blind Amount $5
We have $200 in our stack
With this information we can deduce the maximum number of hands we will see.
During the first four hands we will have to bet a minimum of $15 (Large Blind once and Small Blind once $10+5=$15).
At a rate of $15 / 4 hands we can last for 49 hands. (200 / 15 = 13 rounds of 4 or 13 x 4 => 53 hands)
So at a minimum we will see 53 hands of combinations with 2 cards. That’s a good opportunity to see a decent couple of cards come up.
Before we get into bluffing and folding hands, this means that at its simplest we can wait out the best hands for 53 hands before we run out of money without ever having to bet more.
